Donation for Education for All Children! Donation for Education Exhibition 2017 Held in Gwangju

Donation for Education Exhibition 2017, hosted by the Ministry of Education (Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs Kim Sang-gon) and organized by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity (KOFAC, President Tai Hyun Park) and the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education  (Superintendent Jang Hui-Guk), was held for four days from December 14 (Thurs.) to 17 (Sun.) in Exhibition Halls 1, 2, and 3 of the Kimdaejung Convention Center  in Gwangju.

In its sixth run in 2017, the Donation for Education Exhibition was held under the theme “All Children Are Our Children! Donation for Education for All Children!”  It served as a festive occasion for introducing and promoting various donation for education programs operated by businesses, universities, and public institutions to schools and the general public. Every year, approximately 120,000 students, parents, and members of the general public attend the exhibition. In 2017, approximately 250 students from farming and fishing villages in the Honam area were invited to attend and participate in the exhibition, giving them access to much-needed education programs.

With a strong focus on providing hands-on experiences for visitors to enjoy, the exhibition consisted of six pavilions under themes related to science and technology, careers, the arts, energy, music and physical education, and the Honam area and were operated by over 140 institutions and organizations. The “Road to the Future” pavilion was particularly popular among the students, as it provided experiences customized to them while also introducing them to donation for education policies. Here, the students also took career aptitude tests that guided them to the appropriate booths based on their test results.

The main stage of the exhibition provided various participatory programs as well, including lectures, musical performances, and magic shows, while the “Path of Innovation” pavilion offered visitors a chance to experience the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang through virtual and augmented reality technologies. In the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the efforts of those involved in donation for education activities were celebrated and shared through the signing of donation for education MOUs, awarding of the Donation for Education Grand Prize, introduction of the Donation for Education “Hall of Fame,” and granting of Donation for Education Exhibition certificates of excellence to participating organizations.

President Tai Hyun Park of KOFAC remarked, “We pledge to actively support the Donation for Education Exhibition, which is a platform that connects schools with institutions that can provide various material and human resources that are not immediately available to them. It is now time for our society to come together to ensure that our children are able to pursue their dreams and interests and help them understand the meaning and value of life.” Donation for Education Exhibition 2017 was open to the general public, free of charge, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from December 14 (Thurs.) to 17 (Sun.).
